John K. Ragsdale
Greenville, Jan. 8 - John K. Ragsdale, a business man of this city, formerly of Blair, died here this afternoon. He is a large land owner in Fairfield county and his body will be taken to Little River Church, Fairfield county, for interment, leaving here Sun. morning. [The State, Jan 9, 1915]

Major E. E. Rankin
Greenville , Oct. 7. – Major E. E. Rankin, well-known all over the upper part of this State, died at Piedmont today in his 80th year. The remains will be sent to Gothen , Mass. , for burial. Major Rankin was an old newspaper man who came South from Boston a quarter of a century ago and since his residence here had been correspondent for newspapers in all parts of the country. Hannon Ravan
Greer, Jan. 18 – Hannon Ravan, 48, died this morning at 1:30 o’clock following six months of declining health. A resident of Greer for the past 10 years, he was employed by the Dodson Lumber company. He was the son of the late Tom and Jane Ravan. Surviving are one son, Buford Ravan of Fort Jackson and two sisters, Mrs. Bertie Pate and Mrs. Anna Smith, both of Greer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock at the Wood’s mortuary conducted by the Rev. Palmer Leonard and the Rev. Paul Kinnett. Interment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be H. L. Cunningham, Edd Turner, Riley Hollingsworth, Paul Lee, Francis Southers and Hulos Campbell. Miss Mamie Ray
Miss Mamie Ray of 410 West Washington street, passed away Saturday night at the home of her sister Mrs. R. W. Harris, after many years as an invalid. Miss Ray is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Sarah R. Willeford, Mrs. R. W. Harris and Mrs. W. T. Asbury, all of Greenville. She was a member of the Central Baptist church and while her prolonged illness had prevented her attendance at church she was devoutly religious. The family have been residents of Greenville for a number of years. Funeral services for Miss Ray will be held Monday morning at 11 o'clock at the home of Mrs. R. W. Harris, 410 West Washington street. The services will be conducted by Rev. R. C. Goldsmith. The following will serve as pallbearers: Dewey Oxner, W. A. Allison, W. F. Redmond, John H. Singleton, George Brunson and W. H. Ross. The honorary pallbearers will be M. L. Witt, R. L. Cruickshanks, Marshall Moore, Dr. E. A. Brown, Mr. W. L. Bates and Dr. F. Jordan. Lillie Victoria Mullinax Reid
Mother Of Local Man Passes Away
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Earle Reid, of Slater, were saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Reid's mother, Mrs. Lillie Victoria Mullinax Reid, who died at the family residence near Campobello on Friday, January 26, at 1:15 P. M.
Mrs. Reid was a highly esteemed citizen of her community and was known and loved by hundreds of people with whom she lived and mingled. She had been ill for some time hut had borne her afflictions with Christian fortitude unto the end. As the wife of a minister, Mrs. Reid was often called upon to aid her husband in his work, and by her Christian influence she was able to help many who came in contact with her.
By birth, Mrs. Reid was a North Carolinian. She was born and reared at Grover, N.C., being a daughter of the late William I. C. Mullinax and Elizabeth Letters Mullinax. At the age of 13 she came to Spartanburg, S. C. to live and spent the remainder of her life in South Carolina.
Mrs. Reid was interested in the advancement of all things that tended to better her community, state and nation. She was a devoted member of the Baptist church and was a member of Fairview No. 1 Baptist Church, of which her husband was pastor. She was well known among Baptists in the North Spartanburg Baptist Association, as her husband has been pastor of a number of churches in this association.
While a young woman, Mrs. Reid became the bride of the Reverend T. E. Reid. This union continued for 43 years until the death of Mrs. Reid. To this couple were born several sons and daughters.
Surviving are the husband: three sons, William Earle, Rev. Wilbur T. and Wadden Reid; two daughters, Mrs. H. W. Lynch, and Mrs. Walter E. Smith: two brothers, G. W. and T. B. Mullinax; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha George.
Funeral Services
Funeral services for Mrs. Reid were held on Monday afternoon, Jan. 29, at 3 o'clock P. M., at the Bethel Baptist Church, near the Reid residence, and were conducted by the Reverend Mr. Sinclair, the Reverend J. A. Cave, Dr. J Dean Crain, the Reverend W E. Bellew, and the Reverend Clyde M. Johnson. Interment followed in the church cemetery. [The Slater News, (Slater, S.C.), February 8, 1945, Vol. 3, No. 3]

Ellis Marion Rhodes (Ed)
Funeral services for Edward (wrong nm) M. Rhodes, well known farmer of the Augusta road section, will be held a 4 o'clock this afternoon at Bethel church, near his home, conducted by Rev. Ben Davenport assisted by Rev. A.E. Howard, Rev J.T. Black and Rev. J.J. Boone. The following have been requested to serve as pallbearers W.B. McWhite, N.I. Kay, J. Walter Moon, W.O. Tripp, Floyd Henderson, and J.A. Blakely. The Honorary pallbearers will be A.D. Shockley, E.A. Harris, J.D. Harris, J. Riley Henderson, J.J. Ashmore, P.D. Tripp, C.S. Ashmore, G.S. Meyer, and J.H. Hicks. Mr. Rhodes met an instant death Friday night in a automobile accident on the Augusta road about 10 miles from the city, when the car driven by his son, Manning Rhodes, collided with the rear end of another car occupied by some of his neighbors and parked on the road for repairs. Mr. Rhodes and members of his family were returning from a religious meeting at Reedy Fork church. The lights on his failed to function resulting in the failure of his son to see the car driven by Mr. Claude Banks who was halted on the road for the purpose of repairing lights to his car. Due to the force of the impact Mr. Rhodes was hurled through the windshield of his car which severed the jugular vein. His death was instantaneous.
Coroner J.L. Parks yesterday stated that he investigated the accidnet, but had not decided whether an inquest would be necessary.
Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife and the following sons and daughters, V.L Rhodes of Birmingham, Alabama; Herbert Rhodes of Chattanooga, Tennessee; C.P. and Manning Rhodes of Greenville county; Mrs. Otis Jamison of Birmingham, Alabama; Mrs. Walter Guest of Charlotte, NC; Mrs. Z.A. Norris of Oxford, NC; and Misses Dora Edna, Margaret, Mildred, and Rebecca Rhodes who live at home. The following brothers and sister all of Greenville county also survive John E., J.L., T. Perry Rhodes and Mrs. Fannie Andrews.
Mr. Rhodes was for many years a member of and a officer of Bethel Baptist Church. He was also a member of Griffin camp, Woodmen of the World. He was prominently connected with everything pertaining to the welfare of his community and his scores of friends throughout the county will learn with deepest regret of the tragedy which in his death. Calvin M Riddle
Funeral services for Calvin Montgomery Riddle of 1007 Pendleton Street. Whose death accurred at his home Tuesday following three weeks of illiness, will be held at the Mackey Mortuary Thursday afternoon at 3:30 oclock. Services will be conducted by Dr, W.L Ball and Rev Willard Osborn Following which the body will be taken to Friendship Baptist Church in Laurens County for interment in the family plot. The following will meet at the mortuary at 3:20 to serve as pallbearers Gilbert Duckworth, Luther Ussery, Gentry Shelton, John H Thomason, Tierce Machen and W. J. Hays. Mr Riddle was a contractor and was a native ofLaurens County. He engaged in business in Laurens prior to coming to Greenville. He was 84 years of age and on Sept 9 he and Mrs Riddle celebrated the 64thanniversary of their marriage. Pending the hour of the service the body will remain at the mortuary. Funeral services for Mrs Carrie Anna Rampley Riddle, 94, widow of Calvin Montgomery Riddle of 1007 Pendleton Street will be conducted Wednesday at 2;30 pm at the Mackey Mortuary by Dr D.M. Rivers and Dr. C. Newman Faulconer burial will be in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens County. Pallbearers will be Charles Seaborn, Paul Tally , Lewis Mims, Lee McPherson, J.F. Bessie Allen Rippy
Greenville, July 2 – Mrs. Bessie Allen Rippy, 65, widow of the late W. L. Rippy, died at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock after an extended illness. Mrs. Rippy was born and reared at Grover, NC, a daughter of the late David and Elizabeth Ellis Allen. She lived for a number of years at Grover and Earl and later moved to Blacksburg. Since the death of her husband in 1914, she had made her home with her several children. Mrs. Rippy was a member of Blacksburg Baptist church. She taught in the Sunday school of the church and was otherwise actively engaged in the affairs of her church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. C. J. Loughlin, Mrs. C. S. Kennedy, Mrs. W. H. Darby and Mrs. Coy D. Beaver; three sons, Girard C. Rippy, Fred L. Rippy and W. David Rippy; two sisters, Mrs. Landrum Allen, MRs. Avery Nance; one half-sister, Mrs. John Bridges; one brother, Ben Allen; her step-mother, Mrs. David Allen, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11 o’clock from the New Hope Baptist church at Earl, NC. The Rev. Carl Bridges will officiate and interment will be made in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery. The family will meet at the home of her son, Girard C. Rippy, 9 Lawton Avenue and until the hour of departure, 9 o’clock Thursday morning, the body will remain at the Thomas McAfee funeral home. (Herald Journal, July 3, 1941, Page 3)

Annie Adams Robertson
Tigerville, July 28 -Funeral services for Mrs. Annie A. Robertson, 54, wife of C. G. Robertson who died suddenly Saturday night at 8:30 o’clock at her home in Tigerville, were held this morning at 11 o'clock, at the Tiger Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Sam Lawton. Interment was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were Albert Foster, Crowell Sudduth, Willie Stewart, Gowen Sutherland, Furman Stockton, and W. R. Nelson. Mrs. Robertson was the daughter of the late Jim and Kate Phillips Adams and beside her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Kate Smith, Mrs. Jessie Mae Smith and Miss Coteen Robertson all of Tigerville; five sons, George, Ansel Lee, Charlie Lee, M. B. and Edward Robertson all of Tigerville; two brothers, Steve Adams of route 1, Belton, and Tom Adams of Augusta, Ga., one sister, Mrs. Mattie Hammett of Milledgeville, Ga., and 14 grandchildren. Mrs. Ileen S. Rodgers
Funeral services for Mrs. Ileen Sanders Rodgers, 39, former Greenville resident, whose death occurred at her home, 426 Magnolia street, Spartanburg, at an early hour yesterday morning, following a year of illness, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Mackey mortuary, conducted by the Rev. John N. Wrenn, and the interment will be made in Springwood cemetery. While residents of Greenville Mr. and Mrs. Rodgers lived in the Poe Mill Community, and are well know there, where they were members of the Poe Mill Baptist church. Eight months ago they moved to Spartanburg. Her husband, J. R. Rodgers, of Spartanburg, survives her, together with two step-daughters, Mrs. Etta Reed of Greenville and Mrs. Edna Heard of Asheville, N. C. Her father, J. W. Metz, of Spartanburg, also survives her, in addition to one sister, Mrs. W. A. Riddle of Greenville, and three brothers; Lee Metz of Greenville, John Metz of Laurens and James Metz of Greensboro, N. C. Pending the hour of the service the body will be at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. A. Riddle, 25 Fourth avenue, Judson Mill. Mrs. Mary H. Rodgers
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Harvey Rodgers, wife of Grady Rodgers of the Augusta Road section, eight miles from the city, will be held at 11 o'clock this morning from the Durbin Creek Baptist church, and the interment will follow int he church cemetery. Mrs. Rodgers, 27, was a lifelong resident of the Augusta Road section and was known and esteemed by a wide circle of friends. Her death occurred at a local hospital at 8 o'clock Friday night after several weeks' illenss. Surviving are her husband, Grady Rodgers; one daughter, Massie Rodgers; her father, E. F. Harvey, of Enoree, and the following sisters and brothers, Mrs. Eugene Culbertson, Misses Mallie and Florence Harvey; Messrs. Arthur, Ed, Allie and Jimmie Harvey, all of Enoree. W. Milton Rodgers
Taylors, Aug. 11 - W. Milton Rodgers, 50, World War veteran and foreman on the Santee-Cooper river project, died unexpectedly at Holly Hill Sunday night. He had been employed on the project for the past year, but his home was on Taylors, route 2. He was a son of the late Willis M. Rodgers and Mamie Robinson Rodgers. Surviving are his three brothers, T. L. Rodgers of Greenville, J. R. Rodgers of Taylors, route 2, and F. H. Rodgers of Asheville; one sister, Mrs. W. A. Hudson of Greer, route 4. Funeral services will be conducted from the Rock Hill Baptist Church, of which he was a member, at 6 o'clock (DST) Tuesday by the Rev. Troy Godwin. Burial will follow in the Brushy Creek cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bill Howell, Leonard Green, Press Hollingsworth, Ernest Green, Divam Howell, and Lawrence Duncan. The body will be at the home of his brother, T. R. Rodgers, Taylors, route 2, after 10 o'clock today. Arrangements are in charge of the Wood Funeral Home of Greer. (Herald Journal, August 12, 1941, Page 7)

James B. Rosamond
Death of James B. Rosamond

Mr. James B. Rosamond, a highly esteemed citizen of this county, died at his residence near Mountain Creek church yesterday about 11 o'clock, after a three weeks illness of typhoid fever. He was the father of Mrs. Joseph Allen, and a man of many good qualities. His remains will be interred at Mountain Creek church, about six miles from the city, at 11 o'clock today. D. C. Rozier
Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Rozier, of 1893 East North street, will regret to learn of the recent death of Mr. Rozier's brother, D. C. Rozier, a prominent business man and citizen of Crest View, Fla. Mr. Rozier lived in Greeville for over two years a half decade ago and was known to a large circle of friends here. He was engages in consturction business here and followed this line after removing to the Florida city. The deceased became ill early this month and within a day or so death came. Funeral services and burial were held at Chipley, Fla. He had formerly lived in Chipley and was interred there at his own request. Mr. Rozier is survived by one half sister, Mrs. A. C. Myers, Liberty, Tex.; Lee, Jeff and Gordon Patterson, half brothers, and H. W. Rozier, a brother. The deceased was born and reared in Baxley, Ga. and leaves a large number of relatives and friends in that section of the neighboring state. Mr. Rozier's brother yesterday expressed his heart felt thanks and appreciation to the citizens of Chipley, Fla. for their kindness shown incident to the funeral and burial of his brother. Broadus H. Rumsey
Greer, Jan. 15 – Private Broadus H. Rumsey, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Rumsey of Greer route 5, died this morning at 5 o’clock at a Fort Benning, GA hospital of injuries suffered Sunday night when he was struck by an automobile. Private Rumsey enlisted in the army last January and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, but was transferred to Fort Benning, GA, a week ago. Besides his parents he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mozelle Morris of Greer Route 5; one brother, Doyle Rumsey of Fort Bragg, NC; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will H. Simmons of Toccoa, GA. Private Rumsey was a member of the Victor Baptist Church, where the funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock, with the Rev. R. P. Lamb officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery here. Active pallbearers will be Paul Wood, Akbert Woodson, Grady Powell, Winifred Stokes, Bill Lane and Herbert Mason. The body will arrive in Greer at 3 o’clock Friday morning and further announcements will be made by the Wood Mortuary of Greer. (Herald Journal, January 16, 1942, Page 6)

E. G. Rutledge
Greenville, May 22 – Funeral services for E. G. Rutledge, 51, who died in a Greenville hospital Wednesday, will be conducted here Friday at 3 p.m. at the Thomas McAfee Mortuary. Mr. Rutledge moved from Garden City, Mich., to Greenville seven weeks ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. John T. Foster, former resident of Spartanburg. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Rutledge is survived by two sons, E. G. Rutledge Jr., of Columbus, GA, and Duane Rutledge, Spartanburg; three sisters, Mrs. W. C. Miller, Detroit, and Misses Ronnie and Lola Rutledge, Atlanta; three brothers, Charlie Rutledge, Detroit, Raymond Rutledge, Sarasota, Fla., and Fred Rutledge, Marietta, GA. The Rev. B. Rhett Turnipseed will officiate at the last rites. Burial will be in Springwood Cemetery. (Herald Journal, May 23, 1941, Page 5)
